Handyman Services

Safe at Home Repair is an MHIC licensed home improvement contractor.  We are family owned and operated, and offer general handyman services, as well as specialized aging in place modifications.  Formerly Cornwell Home Repair, we built an excellent reputation on water damage troubleshooting and drywall repairs in this community since the early 1990s.  Last year, to reflect the new direction that the business has taken as we’ve helped seniors in this area age in place, we changed our name to Safe at Home Repair.   Our emphasis on customer service, integrity and value, however, is unchanged.

For most general handyman and safety projects, we are pleased to provide free verbal estimates for general planning purposes.  The estimate is based on the conditions you relay to us over the phone, our judgment of materials and our estimate of the labor needed to complete the project as you describe.

If you need a detailed written estimate that requires a site visit and further investigation or troubleshooting, we may charge for that research time at our standard rates.

First time customers are encouraged to make a list of projects as there is a 2-hour minimum ($85/hr).  After the first visit there is only a 1-hour minimum and additional time is charged in ½ hour increments. There is no travel charge.

Ballpark estimates over the phone may be revised after we are on site if there are significant, previously unknown conditions on site that affect the project. If we think the project’s cost will be 20% or more than the original estimate, we will not continue without advising you and getting your consent.

The time spent purchasing job materials that are time-sensitive (needed on site immediately in order to proceed) will be charged at our regular rates. Otherwise, we try to purchase all materials at a regular retailer on a regular run.
